started working again on my polarbear @ 08:16 am

[info]grizz593, posting in [info]fursuit:
after 2 years in storage I am finally (hopefully) going to finish my polar bear. BUT, I need some ideas. I was thinking of adding some sore of clothing/leather to the outfit to ware on the suit. I was thinking of some sort of cross between Native American/mid evil type outfit. I started making some jewelery (earring) & am working on a mock up of some type of leather armor'ish type helm/headdress. & now I'm out of ideas & not sure what type of material to use that is leather like & not expensive. here is what i have so far Tundra now, do you see him more with a staff or sward? or would ether work? I have both. the sward I have is a replica of the original Conan the barbarian's & the staff i have is around 6' with leather wrapped grip with tassels of leather.
any & all ideas welcome. I was hoping to debut him this October if I can get my tail in gear :P

Oh! Also, any thoughts on lining for the body? I may add in some body foam to bulk out a few spots so I'm sure I will need to line the inside. I just do not know what material would make the best lining.

Thanks!

Dueling @ 12:56 pm

[info]b_mary, posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck:
Okay. I'll keep it short. The fact that I don't duel does not mean you can insult me. I don't like dueling. I play WoW for the quests and for Thrall. I don't even get why people duel, but hey, if you like it, go ahead. Just keep away from me and a.) don't bug me after I declined and b.) don't insult me after I declined. There are loads of people who will duel with you. Now shoo.

Oi! You! @ 10:38 am

[info]freesock, posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck:
Yeah, you! The one who keeps begging me (and others) for threads!

Maybe if you stopped worrying about what your characters should be doing, you'd actually get something done! I'm so tired of you IMing me "thread with D plox! thread with X plox! thread with A plox!"

No, actually, I'm not tired of that. RP is good.

I am tired of you begging for a thread, us starting one, and then you suddenly forgetting the thread exists, only to beg me a couple of weeks down the line for another rp because boohoo our last one died. Which, btw, totally your fault!

Pretty soon you're gonna be wondering why nobody wants to rp with you. If you aren't wondering that already. Well, I can tell you why. Because you rarely finish your threads. Or, no! That would even be okay, since none of us are perfect and sometimes shit happens. Except, wait, it takes you weeks to reply. We have to nag and nag and nag you, and you make unfulfilled promises you had no intention of keeping. Your last thread? They'd been waiting nearly two MONTHS for a reply from you, but you've only just posted, with no apologies whatsoever, as if it's okay for you to revive it even though they've long since moved on without you! And then you whinge/bitch/moan/complain/nag/whine if anyone dares take more than two days to reply to you!

And as if that weren't bad enough? You mix up OOC/IC. You threaten to suicide your characters if things don't go your way. You've admitted openly that your main character is a self-insert; not to mention he's also a massive gary-stu. You've ripped countless ideas from me and your other friend, and yet you've always done so in such a way that the mods/admins can't do anything about it without looking like tyrant mods. Your posts have taken on a c. 19th century omniscient narrative style that doesn't suit your characters (or you) at all. What you think is interesting, funny, or generally good RP? ... just isn't.

You have so much potential, truly. And you're my friend, so this is even harder. But I'm so close to just refusing to rp with you ever again. Get a frickin' clue, please, before you really do have no one to rp with and you lose all your friends to boot.

Yours,
Almost Irreparably Pissed Off.

Yesterday was a fantastic day indeed, and the weather held nicely for the occasion. I was hoping to get some nice pictures of the Arctic Terns as well as the other gorgeous sea-birds that dwell there, but it turns out that times have changed for the Tern colonies..

Zasha the Polar Bear: Progress. @ 02:42 am

[info]rona_dolvi, posting in [info]fursuit:
I only get to work on her once in a while, so here it goes.

Today I added her eyes, the inner lining to her muzzle, and worked more on her fat suit. Yes, she's a polar bear and huge!

In order to make her look more feminine and cartoony (as I'm trying to) and also to give the white fur a bit of color, I added makeup to her.

She looks as below...

I hope that I'm not going to have to pit my love for Batman against my love for The X-Files. I haven't watched a movie in ages, prefering to wait to watch it in privacy now that it takes no more than a few months to become a DVD anyways.
Still......everyone's raving about Batman so I suppose that is what I will pick. It seems the better bet.

Which makes me feel a bit like a traitor given the The X-Files is the show that probably influenced my life more than any other. I was obsessed, had a X-Files theme birthday once and everything. Sooooo geeky. I still have a box of clipping from magazines and newspapers about the show I collected. Never could bring myself to throw them away despite not knowing what the heck to do with it. I didn't like the first movie but man I forgot how much I miss Scully and Mulder. Even if Chris Carter botches this one too maybe the nostalgia will be worth it.

If I have to choose between some of my ultimate favorite heroes I will be a sad pup. Until the DVDs come out.

Moved in. Somewhat. @ 11:23 pm

Mental State: tired

It's been a long four days since my last post; a large amount of moving, made less excruciating with the help of friends to lift and carry boxes and furniture to and from the rented moving truck. With the exception of a few loose items and some trash, the old apartment is empty. If I remember correctly, it will be foreclosed tomorrow, though hopefully that will not prevent the removal of any final items in the coming day(s). It took the bank about a month to get to the last apartment after its foreclosure sale, though the past isn't necessarily an indication of the future...

Anyway, things more or less came together well; I was able to install the hot water heater with a minimum of fuss, and the carpet installer finished his work late on Saturday. Between it and the newly painted walls, the upstairs feels amazingly improved, at least if you don't look in the second floor bathroom (which is missing about half its subfloor at the moment).

Things are far from unpacked and settled, with boxes strewn around some rooms, furniture not where it needs to be, a mountain of clothes on the bedroom floor... There hasn't been much time to relax, but I've tried to step back from the frantic pace of things Saturday and Sunday. But there's still so much left to do...

We're limping along on our 1536/864kbps DSL line. The Zoom X5 DSL modem utterly lacks QOS, and so it hasn't taken much more than one computer watching streaming video to cause horrendous TCP congestion and associated latency jitter dire enough to render VOIP and networking FPS games untenable. As a first attempt to fix it, I dropped in a DD-WRT router in-between the DSL modem+router and our LAN. Although it supports a few different QOS schemes, I started with a light-handed method with an improbable name, TCP Vegas, which works well under constant load, but seems to maybe fail to gracefully handle buffer pause-then-refill style network streams. Honestly, I'm not sure, and it'll be a while before I can really dig in on this, but I have a few other things I can try readily using the internal router. Unfortunately, for the moment, it also means the home LAN is presently double-NAT'd, but there should be some workarounds to 'hide' that since the internal router is the only device on our 'DMZ' subnet.

Some things left to do in the immediate future:
  • Finalize move-out at 29953 Fir.
  • Unpack and organize more stuff
  • Implement better DSL QOS/congestion control
  • Install infrastructure wiring (home LAN) to replace network cables stretching along hall floors
  • Finish subfloor, tile, and fixture reinstallation in upstairs bathroom

I'll definitely be trying to get some photos up and posted.

Interesting moments of the past few days:

Seeing a pickup truck spin out from a bad fishtail on dry asphalt in full daylight for no apparent reason.

While moving stuff out of the old apartment, seeing a neighbor's SUV after it rolled down their driveway, though a fence, down a very steep dropoff, and into a tree. It's nose was jutting up from the side of the road like a tombstone

Managing to get my rental moving truck stuck when backing it out of my new driveway when its wheels hit the ditch on the far side of the road. A pretty cool neighbor named Squirrel helped pull it out with his truck and chain after a few minutes, saving me considerable heartache and pickaxe toil...

I hate reading through the premise of a game and getting really excited about the ideas and wanting to join immediately, only to find out after further reading that it's multiverse game (if that is, indeed, what one calls the games where characters from all different fandoms end up mysteriously in the same place.)

I wish they'd all say that clearly from the beginning so I didn't get all worked up about things before realising I'd have to play an already created character, something I don't enjoy at all.

Fishnapping! @ 09:46 pm

Just wanted to let people know I just fishnapped my sister's betta.
I don't know what his name is, but he's supposed to be a blue veil tail. (think [info]kyboshia 's
[info]Zues but as a veil tail)...
I say supposed to be because if you saw him the length of his fins would make you think he is a she and that she is dead or near death.

To give you an idea of where and why I took him.
His previous home was a BioCube (best for salt water aquariums) and he shared it with a Rummy Nose Tetra .  There also used to be Neon Tetras and a chinese algea eater, I remember I came by one day and saw a neon dead in the tank in the bottom...when I came back the next week it was still there half deteriorated.
I gave her a way to keep the betta, I offered to buy her a new better tank, she refused saying the tank was fine....so I asked her why then did the betta have no tail and she said, "The other one picks on him"...*sigh*...just the more reason to put him in his own tank!

I'll try to post pics later...right now the tank light is out so I can't get a good pic.
description wise:
-attitude: emo w/a razor blade?  morbid?  think along those lines...right now he's just sitting at the top of the tank and not moving around.
-fins: pretty much stubs
-coloring: you see a gorgeous blue on the ends, but otherwise the body is getting a brownish tone to it
-slime coat: pretty much non existant, scales look really bland
-gills: he 'asn't flared at all yet, but there is a white spot right behind the gills where the gill fin starts...not sure if that's natural for him or not.
-body: no brilliant colorization like I remember before...and there almost seems like there is this lighter streak going down his body
-face: there is at least 1 vertical red strip, that I know shouldn't be there, but I think there might actually be 2.

Success! (Website Stuff) @ 12:28 am

[info]felix_j:
After avoiding it for years, I've finally decided to modify all applications that are part of Lupinia (Gallery and Wordpress, mostly) to respond to the same colour scheme settings as the rest of the site. This might not sound like a big deal, but both applications are very difficult to perform this modification on, and both of them have highly complicated CSS. But, with a few days of work, I've performed the modification on both of them, and everything works fine. I also adjusted the appearance of both applications (mostly the gallery) to make them match the layout of the rest of Lupinia.

I also had to make a modification to Wordpress so it would work correctly with a multiple-domain site, which was far more complicated that it needed to be. It was easy to solve the problem, just a two-line fix, but finding where to insert those two lines took over two hours.

My next project involves some XML (first time :-P ), followed by a module for my front page, and then I'll be ready to unveil the new-and-improved Lupinia Studios :-)

You play Yagami Light. For people unfamiliar, he's a sociopath who sees himself as the "god of the new world" thanks to his possession of the Death Note, a book that lets him kill someone by writing their name in it. As the person doing this, he obviously needs to be very careful about what information he lets out. Over a period of several years he manages to do so, fooling everyone completely. Part of what lets him fool people is his utterly smooth off-the-charts charisma and flawless fake persona a of kind and upright justice-driven young man. You'd beg your daughter to date this guy. The other part is his incredible intelligence.

Simple, right? Ok, not really, I'll grant you that. But an easy-to-understand concept, just difficult to do. You cannot do it at all.

This isn't exactly 'bad' rping, it's more like a preference, but since I seem to be getting this a lot -

'But threading is the only rping I've ever done, I've never done rp in aim.'

- I wanna put this out there.

SAME. DAMN. THING.

Just faster and better.

In a thread what happens? You go, then the next person goes. And I can see the point of threads when lots of people get involved. A group chat can be a royal pain in the ass. (Though I still prefer it.)
