So I uploaded my latest commission, 5 page pencil drawing, no background, gryphon transformation pic. It took me WELL over a year to get this thing done. I upload it to VCL, then I get an email from the admins telling me that they were moved into the Sketches folder because it had no background. They also told me not to upload in reverse order. <- now that's the epitome of anal. But I'll overlook that point because it's just too rediculous to attempt to argue about.
Okay, now I know that they seem to think they have some kind of "quality control" going on and they want to make sure sketches are moved into the sketches folder. That's fine. But they need to figure out what a sketch is first, because they obviously have no fucking clue. Now like I said, they've done this to some of my pics in the past, but I didn't really care, I just figured they were being anal, but whatever. I'm an administrator myself, I know the bullshit they go through, and I certainly don't want to add to it. Well tonight I added to it. The problem I have with this incident is that these images are commissions, they took a good 8+ hours each to do. I know they aren't god's gift to pencil drawings, I know they aren't even realistic pencil drawings, but they SURE as HELL are NOT sketches.
Now I knew they were going to be anal because they seem to hate my pencil drawings, so I made another folder called "Transformations" where I figure I can upload my TF sequences. I thought maybe the Sketch thing they have is for the main gallery only so they'd leave subfolders alone. WRONG! Oh how fucking wrong I was. So they got moved anyway. So I email them a strongly worded letter.
But okay if the administration still thinks they're sketches after they take a good hard look at them, fine, I'll just delete them from my VCL site. I'm not going to bicker with them, I'm not going to argue. They're the admins and I'm a piddly ass user that they obviously couldnt' get two shits about. I'm sometimes the same way on my sites, so naturally I'm going to get treated like that on other sites per "What goes around comes around" which I firmly believe in. Anyway, my problem is NOT so much with them moving my commissions, but with the unfair treatment of MY images.
On their Wiki, they have the Sketches thing listed out:
The Sketches Section is for two types of images:
* Files that you think are sketchy, works in progress, or anything else you don't think deserves the limelight of the New Index
* Files that we think don't meet the presentation guidelines, which form part of our Rules.
You know what? my images don't meet that. But that's not the sad, sorry part that really gets me. Here, take a gander at these (Not singling out artists mind you, just pointing out the inconsistancies in the system).
This one was uploaded DIRECTLY after mine, note, not in sketches folder: http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Shadowstalker/AarlynnsheetWIP.jpg
Not in sketches folder: http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/MicahFennec/TrevorFaces.jpg
Same here: http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Sandra-Panico/Character%20Directory./Shane.jpg
Another one: http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Terrell/Comisions/Kitsune_Vixen.jpg
Obviously not a sketch! http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Joy/Adult%20Art/WerebloodGoth.jpg
Nope, not a sketch either! http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Space-Bitch/Characters/cutsdeep.jpg
In conclusion: They obviously need to redefine sketch as "Whatever we move to the sketches folder." Since they are obviously not going by the dictionary definition of the word "Sketch".
