First I'm going to start out by saying, I never read the book. So I don't know what's true to the book or not, and frankly I don't care.
Much to pardalupen's dismay, it wasn't that bad. It was kind of fun in some spots. It was interesting, and what they did to the kids was pretty funny.
But Johnny Depp, you are no Willy Wonka.
While I thought the movie was cute, it was okay. It wasn't a waste of my time like
But this movie can't hold a candle to the original with Gene Wilder. Gene Wilder was a MUCH better Wonka, and he had MUCH better lines and MUCH better retorts to the kids. One of my favorites was:
Willy Wonka: I'm a trifle deaf in this ear. Speak a little louder next time.
To which Johnny Wonka changed to: "Don't mumble" or something to that effect. Lost it dude, totally lost it.
The boat scene looked like it would be a good ride for disneyland. It didn't have the same creep factor as the original, plus that really cool poem that went with it.
One thing that I really liked about the original was the temptation to sell the secrets, and "Charlie doing the right thing" and stuff like that.
So shines a good deed in a weary world.
It just seems like all the emotion was taken out, and then they tried to shove it back in at the last minute.
Although I have to admit, the squirrels were cute.
